Myron Bolitar Starts Years of Reading Harlan Coben Books
The first Harlan Coben novel I read was One False Move, book #5 in his series featuring Myron Bolitar. Myron is a formerly renowned basketball player and the owner of MB SportReps, an agency representing sports stars and celebrities.
Like many of the mystery series I read, the supporting cast adds so much depth. Two of the main supporting characters are Myron’s best friend, Windsor Horne Lockwood III (better known as Win)—an eccentric, philandering billionaire—and his assistant at MB SportReps, Esperanza Diaz. Esperanza, a former professional wrestler known as “Little Pocahontas,” started as an assistant and later became Myron’s business partner.
The Myron Bolitar Series Awards:
Deal Breaker (#1): Won the 1996 Anthony Award for Best Paperback Original; nominated for an Edgar Award.
Fade Away (#3): Won the 1997 Shamus Award and the Edgar Award for Best Paperback Original. It was also nominated for Anthony, Barry, and Dilys Awards.
Back Spin (#4): Won the 1998 Barry Award; nominated for the Dilys and Shamus Awards.
Live Wire (#10): Won the 2011 RBA Prize for Crime Writing (worth €125,000).
The Standalones Define Harlan Coben’s Career
While the series is iconic, his standalone novels have truly defined his career. His first major standalone, Tell No One (2001), was a massive success and received nominations for the Anthony, Macavity, Edgar, and Barry Awards.
Since then, Coben has written predominantly standalone novels, with an occasional return to Myron Bolitar.
His 2021 release, Win, finally puts the spotlight on Windsor Horne Lockwood III. It was a fantastic read—great storyline and even better to finally dig into Win’s complicated family history!
I have yet the next Wilde book, The Match. It’s hard to believe it has been over 20 years since Dr. David Beck was told to Tell No One.
