I read my first Ragnar Jónasson novel, Nightblind, in 2018, and it made an immediate impression on me. Somehow it took me two more years to get back to him, but once I read Rupture in 2020, I was hooked. Over the next two years I read six more of his books, and he has become one of my favorite crime writers. His novels combine atmosphere, setting, and quiet tension in a way that keeps pulling me back.

Dark Iceland Series
What keeps bringing me back to Jónasson is the mood of these books. They are not loud or flashy. Instead, they build slowly through isolation, weather, memory, and the kinds of secrets that never stay buried for long.
